The Waiting

If you really think about it, we spend our whole lives waiting. When we are young, we are waiting to be old enough to make our own decisions, waiting to get out on our own, get our own job and our own place. Waiting for the person of our dreams to walk into our lives. Waiting to fulfill the goals and plans we have for our lives. Or maybe we are simply waiting and trying to figure out what we want to do in this life.

When we are adults the waiting can change. Waiting to get out of school, find a job, buy a house, have kids, travel, check things off of our bucket list and find our purpose in life.

Life happens and our waiting may change again. Waiting to find a better job, get a bigger raise, waiting for answers to prayers, waiting for healing, waiting for a circumstance to change, waiting to feel better, waiting for changed behavior in a loved one. Waiting for kids to grow up. Waiting to retire. We may find ourselves still waiting to find our purpose in life.

Not to mention, the every day waiting. Waiting for a paycheck, waiting for something in the mail, waiting for a phone call, waiting for someone to arrive, wating for dinner...

It goes on and on and we will continue to wait for the rest of our lives.

The simple definition of the word "wait" brought so much encouragement to my heart.

Wait: stay where one is or delay action until a particular time or until something else happens

These words brought me so much joy! We can find peace and rest when we "stay where one is"  until the appointed time comes or "until something else happens".  We don't have to wrestle with stress, worry and anxiety for the future. We can find contentment and begin to enjoy the season we are in. We can fully trust God for the here and now. He will give us the grace and strength to endure and make it through whatever season we currently find ourselves in. How awesome is that?

We don't have to stress or try to make things happen. We can rest when life seems to be delayed or in a waiting time. Have you ever looked back on your life and saw where God was working in your heart and in your circmustances? We can see where He provided during the waiting.  Where we worried and God took care of us. Where we were stressing out and God saw us through. Where we wondered and we found answers. Where we had anxiety and it all worked out. God is so faithful! He has brought us this far and He will continue to see us through whatever life may bring our way.

I love this verse. My Gma taught me a song from the verse Isaiah 40:31. I grew up singing it with her and every once in a while I'll remember it and sing it to myself.

The words are: "They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings like an eagle. They shall walk and not grow weary, they shall walk and not faint. Teach me Lord, teach me Lord to wait."

Teach me Lord to wait.

What do you do in the waiting?
Who do you turn to?
What do you turn to?

Waiting can be long. Waiting can be hard. Waiting can be difficult to keep holding on for what we are hoping will happen in life.

To rest in the waiting. To trust God whole heartedly knowing that He is faithful and He always provides.

 "Wait upon Him" because:

1. There are important things to learn in this season. Ask: "God, what are you trying to teach me right now?

2. We can use this season to get to know God better. Ask God to reveal Himself to you.

3.  We can find Encouragement in the fact that God has you right where you are for His purposes and to prepare you for your future. Ask God to reveal His purposes to you.

4. We can create a mindset of Rest. If we are trusting God, following all His ways, and doing everything we can on our end we can find peace as we wait.  This frees us to relax and just be. Ask God for his wisdom and guidance for the current season you are in.

5. He has promised renewed strength. Ask God to renew your heart, mind and soul with His strength in and through this time of waiting.

What season are you currently in? Are you in a waiting season?

I hope you are encouraged to find rest and peace as you wait upon the Lord in whatever season you find yourself in!

Prayers ❤
