5 Ways to build Community

Does anyone else have a strong desire for Community? I've always had a desire to be connected to my community specifically to the Native Community and to a Church Community. At the same time I have always felt not really connected to my Tribe or in my church. I've had a deep desire in my heart to feel more connected, to have deeper relationships. It has been a life longing that hasn't been totally fulfilled.

Becoming older and looking back to my younger years I have concluded that I have to be more intentional in building community in my life. I love the following quote:

What do you want to be apart of?

"Sometimes the things we are missing and longing for in our lives become passions that help us create good things for other people. "

What is Community?

Community:

1. a group of people living in the same place or having a particular characteristic in common.

2. a feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests and goals.

Community is important. God created us for Community. God has created us for fellowship.  Fellowship with Him and with others.   It isn't a surprise we have a desire to be connected to others.

We were created to be connected. Doing life on our own is not apart of God's plan.

It is safe and easier to not be connected but we may miss out on some amazing connections with people. To stay in our little bubble of living is comfortable. There is so much blessing and love when we are connected to those around us. Life is hard at times, we need each other!

How to Build Community:

1. Be Intentional-  Often times things just don't happen. We have to be intentional to make time to be with family and friends. To get involved in Community Events. Be intentional on talking to new people or the people we rub shoulders with every day.

2. Be the First to Invite-  Extend an invitation to those in your Community. Invite family, friends and neighbors to community events.  Invite people over to your house or out for coffee or tea. Who is on your heart to extend an invitation to?

3. Use your Passions-  What are your passions? Use those areas to build relationships and community with others. Invite someone into the world of what you love or join a group who shares your passions.

4. Be Open to New Friendships- You never know who you will meet out in your community. You may find a really good friend.

5. Look Around You and See Who Needs Love and Attention- There are a lot of lonely and hurting people out there in the world. People are starving for connection and community.  You could be a huge blessing in some one's life.

Who is your Community? Do you feel connected to the people around you? If not, I encourage you to take little steps to begin building your Community. The benefits of Community include finding purpose and meaning in this life. When we are connected with each other and build each other up we find joy that no one can take away.
