Making it Through Winter

Anyone else struggle through the months of Winter every year? Phew,  I am glad I am not the only one.

Over the last 10 years or so I have noticed that I do better and seem to enjoy life more during the second half of the year. June through December seems to be just more fun!

This year I have been thinking of positive things to do to help make the Winter months more manageable and to keep joy in my  life.

How to Better Enjoy the Winter Months:

1. Watch all you favorite movies that you have on DVD or on Netflix, Hulu, Amazon etc.

I've lost track of how many times I have watched these!

2. Light all the candles. Create a warm and cozy atmosphere in your home and living spaces.

3. If you have a fire place or a gas fire place, light it up and enjoy it. Add Wintery items to your decor.

4. Re watch your favorite TV series. Get out those DVDs or watch your faves on Netflix, Hulu, Amazon etc.

5. Drink all the tea- Discover new teas or other hot drinks. (Hot chocolate or coffee) What is your favorite hot drink?

I discovered a London Fog this year!

6. De clutter and get organized- The Life Changing Magic of tidying up by Marie Kondo is really life changing. Use the inside time during the winter months to tidy up and tackle some goals you have for the inside of your home.

7.  Set some time aside for inner life reflection and goal setting. Revisit your goals from the previous year. Start a Goal Journal or notebook if you don't have one already. Explore different journal techniques. Bullet Journaling is really popular right now.

8.  Choose a Word for the Year. See the blog post Word for the Year for more information.

My Word for the Year is Joy.

7.  Take the opportunity to schedule all your medical check ups. I just went to the dentist for an exam and teeth cleaning and also got my eyes checked. (Did you    know we are suppose to get our eyes checked once a year?) Use the dull Winter months to take care of all these appointments and get them done and out of the way for the year.

8. Shake up your exercise routine- Try out an indoor work out from online. Check out YouTube or other websites that offer free workouts.

Bodylastics is a great work out that uses Resistant Bands.

9. Bring the outside in with some greenery or winter flowers. Check out what is growing in your yard or buy some beauties to enjoy in your home.

10. Make soup! Find a good recipe or experiment and throw all the veggies in with some good spices. If you have an Instant Pot, you can make soup in 30 minutes or put it in a slow cooker to be ready for a yummy dinner.

11. Use the inside time to focus on self care. Put on a face mask, get a hair cut, paint your nails, or have a long hot epsom salt bubble bath. Include anything that relaxes and recharges you.

Hair Cut Day is the best day!

12. Get Bundled up and go for a walk or enjoy an outside winter sport. Whenever, the sun is shining try to get out there and enjoy it. The fresh air does wonders!

13. Finish up some arts and crafts or diy projects or start a new one!

14. Read your favorite book, or one that you have been meaning to read.  If you haven't discovered Audio Books you are missing out! Listen to in the car or while you go on a walk or while you are cleaning. The Overdrive app allows you to check out audio books from your local library. This has been a game changer in my life.

15. Take advantage of the winter months to "slow down and enjoy life a little more.  Cultivate things that bring Joy in and to your life.

What do you do to help you through the long winter months? Let me know if you have any other ideas, I would love to hear them.

Love and Prayers ❤
